Ministry of Employment Reviews National Employment Policy to Boost Job Opportunities

The Ministry of Employment is leading a review of Fiji’s National Employment Policy to improve job opportunities for all Fijians.
This review is being conducted in partnership with tripartite stakeholders, with technical assistance from the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
Minister for Employment Agni Deo Singh stated that the revised policy focuses on nine key areas, including working conditions, education and skills development, entrepreneurship, labour migration, climate resilience, and digital transformation.
He emphasized the need for the policy to align with Fiji’s National Development Plan (NDP).
ILO Pacific Director Martin Wandera highlighted that the updated policy will address current employment challenges while fostering a resilient workforce.
He noted the importance of adapting to technological advancements and shifting labour market dynamics to ensure Fijians are equipped with the skills needed for future jobs.
Singh also acknowledged the ILO’s support, stressing that stakeholder consultations will ensure an inclusive and effective employment policy that benefits all sectors of the workforce.
