Ministry of Health Launches Nationwide Review of Key Health Laws
FIJI NEWS

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services, with Cabinet approval, has embarked on a comprehensive review of key health-related legislation as part of efforts to modernise Fiji’s public health system.
The review aims to ensure existing laws are responsive to modern-day health challenges and better support the delivery of effective healthcare services across the country.
Among the legislation under review is the Public Health Act of 1935, which is being re-examined for its relevance and capacity to address today’s public health concerns.
The Ministry is also reviewing several other crucial laws, including the:
Medical and Dental Act
Pharmacy Act 2011
Food Safety Act 2003
Nursing Act
Burial and Cremation Act 1911
Quarantine Act 1965
Radiation Health Act 2009
Tobacco Control Act 2010
The review process began last week in the Central Division at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital and continues this week at the Labasa Divisional Hospital.
It will move to the Western Division on Thursday.
Once the internal review is completed, consultations will be extended to government stakeholders, local communities, international partners, and the general public.
