Mysterious Drone Sightings in New Jersey Spark in Public Concern and Federal Investigation
WORLD

Reports of mysterious lights and drone sightings in New Jersey and other northeastern states have sparked public concern, with former Governor Chris Christie sharing his own experience.
During an interview on ABC’s This Week, Christie revealed seeing a drone outside his home last week, an unusual event in his 30 years of living there.
He criticized the lack of communication from federal and state authorities and called for state police to be empowered to investigate and intercept such drones to determine their purpose.
Christie stressed the need for stronger oversight, citing safety concerns amid the growing presence of drones in public airspace.
Federal officials have sought to reassure the public, stating that most sightings do not appear to involve drones and pose no known threats.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas confirmed that his agency is working with the New Jersey State Police to investigate, noting that there is no evidence of foreign involvement.
He also highlighted the widespread use of drones in law enforcement and commerce, with more than a million registered in the U.S. following updated FAA rules in 2023 allowing night operations.
While former President Donald Trump and others have demanded greater transparency, officials aim to balance public safety with the benefits of modern drone technology as investigations continue.
