Naviavia Villagers Receive Starlink Satellite Dish for Improved Communication
FIJI NEWS

Villagers of Naviavia in Vanua Levu will no longer face challenges related to poor or no internet and telephonic communication, especially during the cyclone season. This significant development came through the handover of a Starlink satellite dish and telephone to the community as part of a pilot program, presented by the Assistant Minister for Information, Hon Aliki Bia, on March 1, 2025.
Network Sharks, an authorized dealer of Starlink, successfully installed the satellite dish, along with a connected telephone, ensuring reliable communication in the area. The package also includes a link and two access points to provide Wi-Fi coverage through a voucher system, offering further connectivity benefits.
District Advisory Counselor Mr. Sade Marika expressed his gratitude, stating, “This is a really big help for us here in Naviavia as we are not able to communicate with those around us, especially during bad weather.” He emphasized that the initiative would play a vital role in ensuring the villagers can receive timely assistance during cyclones or any natural disasters.
Mr. Marika also highlighted that the communication improvements will enable villagers to stay informed about support from government ministries and various initiatives, empowering them to learn and progress within their community.
