The people of Navua are taking a big step towards improving cremation services in the area by building the Raiwaqa-Navua Crematorium.

This project comes as a response to the growing demand for modern and environmentally friendly cremation options, particularly in communities where cremation is a preferred method for handling the remains of loved ones.

The crematorium, which is being built at a cost of $650,000, will make it easier for families in the Navua and Serua/Namosi regions to access cremation services without having to travel long distances to places like Davuilevu Housing or Raralevu.

Neel Singh, the Treasurer of the Crematorium Committee, shared that the project is still in its early stages, with drainage work and the construction of retaining walls already underway.

Over $10,000 has already been spent on groundwork.

"The purpose of the Raiwaqa-Navua Crematorium is to provide a more environmentally friendly way to handle the remains of loved ones, using modern gas-powered cremation technology," Singh said.

"It also respects the cultural and religious preferences of families who prefer cremation over burial." he says

He added that the crematorium will bring multiple benefits to the community.
