Nemani Reflects on How Football Connected Him With Fiji’s Cultures
FIJI NEWS

Former Fiji football captain Maritino Nemani has shared a simple message of unity and multiculturalism, reflecting on how football helped shape his appreciation of Fiji’s diverse communities.
In a Sunday social media post, Nemani revealed that his curry-cooking skills were picked up from Indo-Fijian friends and families during his early days playing football for Suva and Fiji.
“Football took me across Fiji, travelling extensively through many provinces and communities. Along the way, I was fortunate to experience different cultures, traditions and, of course, some very good food,” Nemani said.
The former national captain said some of the lessons and experiences from those years had remained with him — including learning how to make a good curry.
His Sunday spread included crab and chicken curry, as well as fish in lolo, bringing together dishes reflecting different parts of Fiji’s multicultural food traditions.
“Some of those lessons have stayed with me over the years — including how to make a good curry!” Nemani said.
