The 2026–2027 National Budget will focus on stabilising Fiji's economy while laying the foundation for future growth, according to Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development, Esrom Immanuel.

Speaking ahead of the budget announcement, Minister Immanuel said the Government remains focused on managing the economic challenges caused by the ongoing global fuel crisis, while ensuring critical programmes and services continue.

He said many of the measures introduced during the fuel crisis will remain in place as the Government is still uncertain when global fuel markets will fully stabilise.

The Minister noted that while fuel prices are expected to ease based on global trends, the Government will continue to take a cautious approach to spending and economic management.

A key feature of the upcoming budget will be increased emphasis on capital expenditure, with several major projects expected to commence during the new financial year.

Minister Immanuel said these investments are intended not only to support economic growth but also to strengthen Fiji's resilience against future challenges, including natural disasters, climate change and global economic shocks.

He added that overall government spending is expected to remain at a similar level to the current financial year, despite inflationary pressures and slower economic activity resulting from the fuel crisis.

The Minister acknowledged that many Fijians are already feeling the impact of rising costs and economic uncertainty, but stressed that the Coalition Government is aware of these challenges and is developing strategies and action plans to address them.

Minister Immanuel also urged the public not to panic, saying the Government is working to protect both the economy and the wellbeing of ordinary Fijians as it prepares to deliver the new budget.

The 2026–2027 National Budget is expected to be tabled in Parliament tomorrow.
