NFA Raises Alarm Over Bush, Grass and Cane Fires in Western Division

The National Fire Authority (NFA) is urging communities in the Western Division to take extra precautions as dry and windy conditions increase the risk of bush, grass and cane fires.

The Authority says the combination of dry vegetation and strong winds can cause fires to spread rapidly, turning what may begin as a small fire into a serious threat to homes, farms, livestock, power lines and lives.

NFA firefighters have responded to numerous bush and grass fire incidents across the Western Division, with some fires spreading to nearby properties.

Members of the public are being reminded to avoid careless or uncontrolled burning and to ensure fires are never left unattended.

Residents are also encouraged to clear dry grass and other flammable materials from around their homes and properties to help reduce the risk of fire spreading.

The NFA is stressing that fire prevention is a shared responsibility and is calling on communities to remain alert and report fires as soon as they are detected.

Anyone who sees a fire is urged to immediately contact the NFA on 910.

The Authority is also reminding the public that taking early precautions can help protect families, homes, businesses and communities from the devastating effects of uncontrolled fires.
