NFP Raises Alarm Over ‘Fake News’ Targeting Party Leader
FIJI NEWS

The National Federation Party (NFP) has raised the alarm over what it describes as a renewed wave of fake news, targeting its party leader and Deputy Prime Minister, Professor Biman Prasad.
In a strongly worded statement shared by the party yesterday, the NFP claimed that a misinformation campaign—similar to one seen prior to the last general election—has resurfaced, this time directed at DPM Biman Prasad.
“🚨 FAKE NEWS ALERT: PM Calls Out Peddlers of Misinformation 🚨,” the statement began, warning supporters and the public of false posts being circulated online.
The party singled out political activists Ben Padarath and Suliasi Daunitutu, accusing them of spreading “completely false” content “aimed at misleading the public and stirring division.”
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, responding to the claims, did not mince his words.
“Fake news by Ben Padarath. Stop the lies, Ben. We see through you now. Truth will always win,” Rabuka was quoted as saying in the party’s statement.
The NFP also dismissed social media claims that the Prime Minister would take action against the party, labelling such rumours as “outright fabrications.”
“These coordinated attempts to spread misinformation are nothing more than desperate distractions,” the party said. “We urge the public to be vigilant and verify information before sharing.”
Despite the online attacks, the NFP said it remains focused on its priorities.
“At NFP, we remain focused on real issues that matter to the people of Fiji—truth, accountability, and service,” the statement concluded. “Don’t be misled. Don’t be used. Truth always prevails.”
