“No Evidence of Illicit Substances Found” – Ministry of Tourism
FIJI NEWS

Initial testing of beverages and guest samples linked to a recent incident at a resort has found no signs of illicit substances, the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation announced.
To ensure a thorough investigation, the ingredients, as well as blood and urine samples from affected guests, have been sent to New Zealand for more advanced testing.
These tests require specialized equipment not available in Fiji. Results are expected in approximately three weeks.
The Ministry has asked for patience while authorities continue their investigation, emphasizing the importance of a fair and transparent process.
In response to requests from affected guests for individual test results, the Ministry is working with local authorities, including the Fiji Police Force and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, to determine the best way to provide this information.
They are also consulting legal experts to ensure that privacy laws are respected.
Once the final results are ready, affected guests and their High Commissions or Embassies will be informed first through official channels.
The Ministry has also urged international partners to update their travel advisories, particularly the use of terms like “methanol poisoning,” which has been ruled out in initial investigations.
Officials are collaborating with the Ministry of Health, the Fiji Police Force, Tourism Fiji, and the resort involved to uphold Fiji’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination for all travelers.
