A 21-year-old nursing student from Lajonia, Labasa, has been charged by the Fiji Police Force Cyber-Crime Taskforce for allegedly obtaining financial advantage through an online scam.
Police say the incident occurred on 18 May 2025, when the accused allegedly tricked a victim into transferring $150 via mobile money as a deposit for a mobile phone advertised under a fake social media account.
Investigations revealed the victim had seen a phone worth $800 posted online and messaged the account holder. The accused allegedly sent a photo of the phone and a fake ID to gain the victim's trust.
After the $150 was transferred, the accused became unreachable.
The victim later reported the matter to Tavua Police Station.
The accused has been charged and will be produced at the Labasa Magistrates Court later today.
