Over 200 people attended a special function hosted by NZ Sangam to honour its veterans, with Labour Leader Mahendra Chaudhry as the chief guest.

Mr. Chaudhry, reflecting on the event, said it was heartwarming to reconnect with many familiar faces from his years as a civil servant, trade unionist, and politician. He was especially pleased to meet Dr. Gunasagaran Gounder, former Assistant Health Minister in his 1999/2000 Cabinet.

NZ Sangam was praised for its inclusive leadership and vision, having opened its doors to all Fijian ethnic communities. The group works closely with local authorities to support immigrant families.

In his speech, Mr. Chaudhry thanked Sangam veterans for their contributions to Fiji as farmers, teachers, professionals, and business owners. He also commended the organisation’s service in education and cultural preservation.

Acknowledging the political and social challenges that led many Fijians to migrate, Mr. Chaudhry urged the community to “remain united, work faithfully, and you will surely succeed.”
