The G16+1 members of the Opposition have revealed plans to form a new political party to compete in next year’s General Elections.

Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu announced the decision, explaining that the party’s mission is to restore Fiji’s past strengths and address what he referred to as “setbacks” under the Coalition government.

“With the de-registration of the FijiFirst party and the G-9 joining the Coalition, we decided it’s time to form a new political party. Our focus is on regrouping and working toward a brighter future for Fiji,” said Seruiratu.

He criticized the current government for not delivering on its promises. “They condemned FijiFirst’s policies, calling them giveaways, but have continued to use them after taking power.

They also pledged a smaller, more efficient government, but instead, we now have the largest government in history. Over the past two years, we’ve seen how the government has performed and the gaps in their leadership.”

Seruiratu emphasized that the new party would prioritize fairness and equal opportunities for all citizens.

“We aim to build on the principles we believed in as FijiFirst, learning from both our achievements and our mistakes to create something better,” he added.

The new party is set to present itself as a renewed choice for Fijians in the upcoming elections.
