Opposition Leader Raises Concern Over Poor Road Conditions in Fiji

The Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Inia Seruiratu, has raised serious concerns about the poor state of Fiji’s roads, saying they are getting worse and causing problems for people and businesses.
Many roads, especially in rural areas, are full of potholes, cracks, and erosion, making travel dangerous and difficult.
These bad road conditions are not only a safety risk but also make it hard for people to reach schools, hospitals, and workplaces.
Hon. Seruiratu said the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is struggling to fix the issue due to poor planning and project management.
He also pointed out that some contractors are using low-quality materials and poor workmanship, which leads to roads breaking down quickly.
“In some cases, cheaper materials are used to cut costs, but this only causes more problems because the roads don’t last long,” he said.
The Opposition Leader is calling on the government and FRA to take urgent action by allocating more resources for road repairs and ensuring that contractors do their job properly.
He stressed that roads are essential for people’s daily lives and the country’s economy, so they must be built and maintained to high standards.
“We urge the FRA and contractors to be accountable and committed to delivering good-quality work that will benefit Fiji for years to come,” he said.
