Pacific Finance and Economic Ministers convened yesterday at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat in Suva for the Forum Economic Ministers Meeting (FEMM), according to the Pacific Islands Forum.

The meeting, which runs until 23 July, is chaired by the Prime Minister of Tonga and Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr 'Aisake Eke, under the theme “Stronger Together: Advancing Economic Resilience and Sustainable Futures in the Pacific.”

In his opening remarks, Dr Eke said the region holds significant potential for greater economic cooperation and integration across key sectors including trade, development, security, and social progress.

“We can achieve this by strengthening existing regional institutions and arrangements, developing coordinated regional policies, and fostering closer economic cooperation and integration to address development issues,” he said.

According to the Pacific Islands Forum, ministers from the PIF Women Leaders Meeting also joined the FEMM for the opening session and participated in a Ministerial Talanoa focused on “Future-Proofing Pacific Economies.”
