Pacific Polytech Campus in Bua is Now Fully Powered by Solar
FIJI NEWS

A Pacific Polytech campus in Bua is now operating entirely on solar power, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy in the education sector.
The Nawaca campus is now 100 per cent powered by a solar system designed, procured, and installed by staff and students themselves.
The initiative highlights the growing role of local expertise in driving renewable energy solutions, particularly in rural and maritime areas where access to reliable electricity can be a challenge.
“What we have done here in Nawaca shows that even our most remote communities can lead the way in innovation and sustainability," said Polytech Chairman Doctor Ganesh Chand.
“This project shows that Fiji does not need to wait for others; we have the knowledge, the skills, and the people to power our own future.”
Pacific Polytech’s hands-on approach not only reduces operational costs and reliance on traditional energy sources but also provides students with practical, real-world experience in renewable energy systems.
The project demonstrates how educational institutions can lead by example in adopting clean energy while building technical capacity among students.
With Fiji continuing to push towards renewable energy targets, initiatives like this are expected to play an important role in supporting national efforts and strengthening energy resilience across the country.
