Parliament to Postpone Debate on Truth and Reconciliation Commission Bill

Parliament has announced that the debate on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Bill will take place at a later date.

The Bill was introduced this evening by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.

During the session, Speaker Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu confirmed that, in accordance with Standing Order 84(1), the Bill has been read for the first time. It will now be included in the order paper and scheduled for a second reading in an upcoming sitting.

Ratu Naiqama urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to take advantage of the interim period to thoroughly review the Bill in preparation for the forthcoming debate.

The Prime Minister is expected to notify the House regarding the date for the second reading.
