The People’s Alliance Party has dismissed claims by the Fiji Labour Party that the Coalition Government is “collapsing”, describing the remarks as misleading and politically motivated.

In a statement, People’s Alliance General Secretary, Sila Balawa, said Fiji’s democratic institutions remain strong, and the government continues to operate with stability and a working majority in Parliament.

Mr Balawa said legal proceedings involving cabinet ministers are matters for the courts and should not be used for political gain.

“Fiji’s democracy is robust, and our institutions, including the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption, operate independently. No party or individual should pre-judge outcomes or exploit these matters for political gain,” he said.

He added that claims of internal divisions, shifting alliances, and political instability were “speculative and designed to create noise,” insisting that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka continues to lead the government with continuity in service delivery and development projects.

“The assertion that the Coalition Government is collapsing is unfounded. The People’s Alliance remains committed to governing responsibly and in accordance with the law,” Mr Balawa said.

“Attempts to undermine the Coalition Government with baseless claims will not distract us from delivering for the people.”

The response follows a strongly worded statement from the Fiji Labour Party earlier this week, claiming that the government was “in total disarray” following corruption-related charges laid against Deputy Prime Ministers Manoa Kamikamica and Biman Prasad.

Labour said the charges had exposed what it described as a “breakdown of leadership under Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.”

The party claimed that trust within the Coalition was eroding, alleging that some government MPs were reconsidering their loyalty.

“What we see today is not a stable government but a fractured coalition clinging to power, drowning in scandal,” Labour said.

The party further accused the government of “failing its promise of integrity and accountability.”
