PM Justin Trudeau Tweets $1.3 Billion Border Plan After Call with Trump, Pauses Tariffs
WORLD

In a tweet from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, it was announced that Canada will implement a comprehensive $1.3 billion border security plan following a productive call with U.S. President Donald Trump.
This initiative aims to bolster border protection with new helicopters, advanced technology, and additional personnel, enhancing coordination with American partners to curb the flow of fentanyl into North America.
Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel will be deployed to reinforce the border.
In a significant move, Canada will appoint a Fentanyl Czar, designate cartels as terrorist organizations, and ensure 24/7 surveillance of the border.
Additionally, a Canada-U.S. Joint Strike Force will be launched to combat organized crime, fentanyl trafficking, and money laundering.
Trudeau has also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl, backed by a $200 million investment.
In light of these commitments, proposed tariffs between the U.S. and Canada will be paused for at least 30 days as both nations work together to implement these measures.
