PM Rabuka Hails Captain Nand’s Rise in RFMF

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has congratulated Captain Sheemal Nand on her commissioning into the officer ranks of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF).

Rabuka described the achievement as another proud chapter in the continuing advancement of women within Fiji’s disciplined forces.

Reflecting on his time as Commander of the RFMF, the Prime Minister said that in 1988 he had the privilege of opening the military to women for the first time.

“I believed then, as I do today, that women should have every opportunity to serve our nation and rise through the ranks on their ability and commitment,” Rabuka said.

He said nearly four decades later, it was a source of immense pride to see women such as Captain Nand continuing that journey, breaking new ground and taking on greater leadership and responsibility within the RFMF.

Rabuka also highlighted the significance of Captain Nand’s achievement as an Indo-Fijian woman serving in the military.

“Her achievement is even more significant as she now stands among the highest-ranking Indo-Fijian women to have served in the RFMF,” he said.

The Prime Minister wished Captain Nand success as she begins the next chapter of her service to Fiji.

“Congratulations, Captain Nand. I wish you every success in this new chapter of your service to our nation.”
