Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will share his vision for a peaceful Pacific when he attends the National Presidential Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., this week.
The "Ocean of Peace" concept focuses on keeping the Pacific region free from conflict while strengthening cooperation among island nations. PM Rabuka hopes it will be officially recognized at the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in the Solomon Islands later this year.
"As Pacific nations, we are connected by the ocean, and it is our duty to keep it a place of peace," PM Rabuka said.
During his visit, he will also meet with U.S. congressional leaders, including Senator Ed Case, Senator Mike Lee, and Senator Kevin Kramer, to discuss key issues affecting Fiji and the wider Pacific.
PM Rabuka first attended the Prayer Breakfast in 1992 and sees it as an opportunity to promote good governance and strengthen international relationships.
Fiji remains committed to peace and regional unity, and PM Rabuka believes the "Ocean of Peace" idea can guide future cooperation among Pacific nations.
