FIJI NEWS

A woman in her late 50s has been charged by the Police MPaisa task force in connection with an alleged financial fraud scheme involving $2,500.
The accused, a Lami resident, is alleged to have deceived a victim on April 16, 2022.
According to police reports, the victim had been in online communication with someone she believed was living overseas.
The suspect is said to have convinced her that transferring money would result in a gift being sent directly to her.
Following the suspect’s instructions, the victim sent the funds to another individual, who then forwarded the money to the accused.
Investigations have uncovered that the intermediary who received the funds is also believed to be a victim of the same scam.
After the transfer, the victim attempted to reach the person she had been communicating with but was unable to make contact.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Suva Magistrates Court today.
