Police Commissioner Reiterates Accountability Stance

The Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, has reaffirmed his commitment to holding police officers accountable for any abuse of authority.
This follows an incident where officers allegedly assaulted a 32-year-old man in Navua.
Commissioner Tudravu stated that the Criminal Investigations Department is investigating the matter and providing regular updates to the victim.
He emphasized that such claims are unfortunate, especially during efforts to rebuild public trust. "Any act that brings disrepute to the organization casts a dark shadow on other positive achievements," he said.
Tudravu stressed that unruly behavior will not be tolerated, whether externally or within the force.
Officers have been warned to enforce the law according to best practices, and any actions beyond lawful authority will not be condoned.
The Commissioner is awaiting the Internal Affairs Unit's investigation report before deciding on disciplinary action, while the criminal investigation continues.
