Police Commissioner Urges Public Cooperation Following Viral Video Incident

Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu is reiterating calls for public cooperation with police officers, warning that refusal to comply could result in charges.
This follows the circulation of a video on social media showing a police officer intervening in a dispute between two couples at the Nasinu Police Station regarding the custody of a child.
According to police, the confrontation began with a heated verbal exchange, which escalated with the use of offensive and vulgar language. One of the men involved allegedly refused to cooperate, prompting police intervention.
Commissioner Tudravu has ordered an investigation into the individual involved and stated that if he wishes to lodge a counter complaint, he is entitled to do so. Internal Affairs will take over the investigation once a report is filed.
“It’s easy to assume things based on a video that showed only one side of the story, and we will take accountability if the officer is in the wrong,” Commissioner Tudravu said. “I have repeated my warnings internally on the need to maintain professionalism, but at the same time, I will stand by officers if they are performing their duties to the best of their abilities, especially in volatile situations.”
