A dedicated Southern Division Taskforce is assisting Valelevu Police in investigating a reported break-in at the Shri Santan Daram Mandir in Nadera.
According to the temple’s President, an unknown individual damaged a section of the wall and an office grill, with damages estimated at $250. No items were reported stolen at the time of the complaint.
However, conflicting media reports have since claimed that $1,500 worth of offerings were taken during the incident. In response, Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has instructed investigators to determine the truth behind the discrepancies.
K9 officers were deployed to the scene as house-to-house inquiries were carried out.
Commissioner Tudravu condemned the cowardly act and emphasized the need to avoid spreading misinformation that could incite religious or communal intolerance.
“While we take attacks on places of worship seriously, it is equally important that facts are not misrepresented or used to stir division,” he said.
Investigations remain ongoing.
