Police are investigating an incident in which a motorcyclist was nearly struck by a stone allegedly thrown by a member of the public, in a case that has since gone viral on social media.

A police complaint has been lodged, and officers are currently looking into the matter, with the case expected to be referred to Sigatoka Police for further investigation.

The suspect has been identified from Tagaqe Village.

The incident, which was captured on video, shows a rider travelling along a public road when a man appears to deliberately throw a stone in his direction.

The object narrowly misses the rider, forcing him to take evasive action to avoid what could have been a serious accident.

Members of the local riding community have expressed alarm over the incident, saying it reflects a broader pattern of dangerous behaviour faced by motorcyclists on Fiji’s roads.

Revolution Riders Fiji said that such actions are “not a joke,” warning that even a small object can have life-threatening consequences.

“People don’t realise — one stone, one second, that’s all it takes. You come off the bike, that’s your life changed."

The incident was described as “reckless and completely unacceptable,” considering that motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable due to their lack of protection compared to other road users.

Under the Crimes Act 2009, actions such as throwing objects at a person may constitute assault, even if it was just an attempt, as well as a reckless act endangering life or safety, even in circumstances where no physical injury occurs.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations progress.
