The Fiji Police Force has joined the nation in commemorating Girmit Day, paying tribute to the strength, sacrifice, and enduring legacy of the Girmitiyas whose contributions helped shape modern Fiji.
In a special Girmit Day message shared on social media, the Fiji Police Force described the Girmitiyas as the hands that “once laboured in silence” but ultimately built a legacy that continues to echo through generations.
The Force said it stands together with all Fijians in remembering the struggles, resilience, and contributions of the Girmitiyas, whose determination helped lay the foundations of the nation.
The message highlighted the importance of remembering not only the hardships endured under the Girmit system but also the lasting impact the Girmitiyas made on Fiji’s communities, economy, and national identity.
The Fiji Police Force also reaffirmed its commitment to serving communities across the country, ending its message with a call for unity and safe communities for all Fijians.
