The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Fiji has confirmed that two dogs, Chiblin and Rose, have been safely recovered after an attempted theft in Navua.

According to the SPCA, the retrieval was made possible through the persistent efforts of the dogs’ family and the assistance of the Navua Police, Fiji Police Force.

Both dogs are now under SPCA care, where they are being treated for injuries, malnourishment, and trauma.

The organisation says they will remain in care until they are strong enough to be released back to their family, pending further instructions from Police.

SPCA Fiji says Police have assured them that they will investigate the incident and charge those involved.

The organisation has also issued a community alert, warning that pet theft is a growing problem in Fiji, with stolen animals often used for pig hunting, dog fighting rings, or resold as guard dogs.

“Pet owners need to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately. If you suspect theft, please contact SPCA Fiji or your local Police Station. Do not wait until it is too late,” the SPCA said.
