Police Urge Parental Guidance After Students Caught with Marijuana

Parents and guardians are being urged to engage in ongoing conversations with their children about the serious consequences of illicit drug use.
This reminder comes from Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP), Mr Livai Driu after four students were referred to the police for allegedly smoking marijuana during an athletics meet in Suva.
The students were found with smoking devices inside a washroom and were referred to security officials at the event before police were notified.
ACP Driu stated that the parents were informed, and the students received counseling regarding the implications of their actions.
He emphasized the importance of parental guidance, noting that children are often at a stage of experimentation in their lives.
“Without constant guidance, children may seek advice from sources that do not prioritize their best interests, potentially leading them down the wrong path,” ACP Driu warned.
In a separate incident, the Fiji Detector Dog Unit conducted a raid in a Lami settlement, resulting in the arrest of two men allegedly found with nearly 100 branches of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
The suspects are currently in custody, and the seized substances have been sent for analysis.
Additionally, other arrests for alleged possession of marijuana occurred at various locations, including Nausori market, Lautoka, Sigatoka, Labasa bus stand, and Vunivau in Labasa.
All seized items are undergoing analysis.
The Fiji Police Force continues to urge the community to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug use and trafficking.
