His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, President of the Republic of Fiji, was formally installed as Chancellor of the Order of Fiji in a ceremony at the State House today.

The installation was officiated by Chief Justice Salesi Temo, who administered the Oath of Office and presented the Star and Chain of the Chancellor to the President.

The Order of Fiji, established under the Fiji Honours and Awards Act 1995, recognizes outstanding service and achievements by Fijian citizens, with honorary appointments occasionally awarded to non-citizens.

The Act designates the President as the fount of all honours and awards, and therefore, the Chancellor of the Order.

In his speech, President Lalabalavu expressed gratitude for the appointment and pledged to uphold the culture of appreciation for individuals who contribute to Fiji’s progress.

He acknowledged the countless volunteers and unsung heroes who work tirelessly in their communities, often without recognition.

The President also commended the Fiji College of Honour, led by Chairperson Nesbitt Hazelman, for its role in overseeing the nation’s honours system. Other members of the College include Brigadier-General Apakuki Kurusiga, Michael Yee-Joy, Dhan Gauri Patel, and Susana Tuisawau.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka and his wife, Speaker of Parliament Hon. Filimoni Jitoko, Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Brigadier-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu, and members of the Fiji College of Honour.
