Prime Minister Rabuka Meets Tongan Prime Minister

In the spirit of strengthening our Pacific Vuvale, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who also serves as Minister for Foreign Affairs, met with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga, Hon. Dr. ‘Aisake Valu Eke, yesterday.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the TROIKA Leaders gathering at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort in Nadi.
This first bilateral engagement between the two leaders focused on deepening cooperation between Fiji and Tonga, as well as broader engagement within the Blue Pacific region.
Key areas discussed included trade and investment, connectivity, defense and security, climate resilience, and strengthening people-to-people ties.
PM Rabuka warmly welcomed Dr. Eke and his delegation, reaffirming Fiji’s commitment to stronger bilateral and regional partnerships.
He also acknowledged Tonga’s interest in opening a fully-fledged diplomatic mission in Fiji and highlighted the importance of establishing a Development Cooperation Agreement to realign priorities for both nations.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of the Ocean of Peace concept as a Pacific-led approach to promoting unity, solidarity, and global peace. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to building a more resilient and sustainable future for the Pacific region.
