In an official release from the Fijian Government, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed that he will deliver the opening prayer at the upcoming National Presidential Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C.

The annual event, known for gathering U.S. lawmakers, international leaders, and influential business figures, serves as a platform to discuss faith, good governance, and global cooperation.

Organised by the National Prayer Breakfast Foundation and the U.S. Congress, the event has historically been attended by U.S. presidents, prominent religious leaders, and business dignitaries from around the world.

FijiLive reports that Prime Minister Rabuka also expects to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump during the event—a meeting that comes against the backdrop of Rabuka’s previous diplomatic efforts to engage Trump on global issues.

PM Rabuka had earlier made a public plea to President Trump, published on FBC News, urging him to reconsider the United States’ decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord. That appeal, however, was ignored by the Trump administration.

In addition to his participation in the prayer breakfast, Prime Minister Rabuka will hold a series of high-level bilateral meetings, including discussions with Congressman Ed Case, Chair of the Congressional Pacific Islands Caucus.

These talks are expected to focus on strengthening the relationship between the United States, Fiji, and other Pacific Island nations, with key topics likely to include climate resilience, regional security, and economic cooperation.

The Prime Minister will also engage with the Fijian diaspora in Washington and California, providing updates on Fiji’s progress over the past two years under the Coalition Government’s leadership. His visit underscores Fiji’s commitment to diplomatic outreach and maintaining strong ties with international partners.

While Prime Minister Rabuka is on official travel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Professor Biman Prasad, will serve as Acting Prime Minister.
