Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has reaffirmed Fiji’s deep commitment to Melanesian solidarity, telling regional leaders that “we are Melanesia, we are family” during the 23rd Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Leaders’ Summit reception in Suva.
Addressing leaders and dignitaries at the Grand Pacific Hotel last night, PM Rabuka—who also chairs the MSG—said Fiji was honoured to host its Melanesian brothers and sisters and emphasized the power of collective action.
“From the vibrant shores of Suva to the halls where we deliberated key regional priorities, I hope you have felt the warmth of our people and the strength of our commitment to the MSG,” he said.
He highlighted that the summit had reinforced the region’s shared values of sovereignty, solidarity, and sustainable development. Discussions during the summit covered critical areas including regional security, economic cooperation, climate resilience, and cultural preservation.
“While challenges remain, what gives me hope is the clarity of our vision and the unity of our purpose,” Rabuka said.
He also acknowledged the leadership of fellow Melanesian leaders and thanked the MSG Secretariat for their dedication to the summit’s success.
“With the conclusion of the one-day leaders’ meeting, I hope all our delegates leave Fiji with a renewed sense of kinship and the strong bonds we all share,” he said.
“Let us continue to build on the progress we’ve made here—through action, unity, and unwavering commitment.”
