Rabuka Reminds Senior Public Servants That Power Is Temporary

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has reminded Fiji’s senior public servants that positions of authority do not last forever, urging them to focus on strengthening the institutions they have been entrusted to serve.

“Power is temporary. Positions are temporary. Institutions endure. The nation endures,” Rabuka said.

He made the remarks while launching the inaugural Veimataki Leadership Series Dialogue, which brought together some of the country’s most senior public service leaders.

Rabuka challenged those in leadership to view statecraft as a shared national responsibility and to place Fiji’s interests at the centre of their decision-making.

He called for sound judgment, integrity and responsible stewardship across all arms of Government, stressing the importance of protecting institutions for future generations.

The dialogue brought together permanent secretaries, heads of Fiji’s disciplined forces and senior executives.

It was coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade in partnership with the Fiji Learning Institute for Public Service.

The initiative is designed to strengthen leadership capacity within the public service while ensuring valuable institutional knowledge and experience are preserved and passed on to future leaders.

Rabuka said the Fijian concept of Veimataki was grounded in trust, reciprocity, stewardship and integrity.

He said these values could provide both a cultural foundation and strategic direction for the way Government serves communities at home and represents Fiji internationally.
