Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has urged civil servants to stay grounded in faith and committed to service, reminding them that public life comes with both praise and criticism.

Speaking at an Easter service at the Centenary Church in Suva attended by Cabinet Ministers, permanent secretaries and government officers, Mr Rabuka said the Easter message remains deeply relevant to those in public service.

He said the story of Palm Sunday reflects the reality many leaders face.

“The same people who celebrate with us in times of victory may question us in times of trial. One day we are praised, the next we are criticised,” he said.

Mr Rabuka encouraged civil servants to remain steadfast, guided by faith, humility and a spirit of service.

“When the time comes, remember to serve and to forgive—‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.’ Be faithful and strong, knowing you have been called and blessed to serve,” he said.

He also acknowledged the importance of the gathering, saying it provided an opportunity for reflection, unity and spiritual renewal.

The Prime Minister extended condolences following the passing of former President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and acknowledged those grieving during the Easter season.

Meanwhile, President of the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma Reverend Dr Semisi Turagavou reminded those present that true peace comes from knowing God.

He urged believers to seek God with reverence in all aspects of life, especially during Easter, referencing teachings from the Gospel of St Luke, chapter 19.
