The Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro, officially launched five new Information and Communication Technology (ICT) initiatives, alongside the Alumni & Employer Connect Framework for the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS), during a ceremony at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.

“These initiatives mark a significant step toward operational excellence, ensuring accountable administration and an enhanced customer experience,” said Hon. Radrodro. He highlighted that the People’s Coalition Government remains committed to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education by increasing access to tertiary education for young people, especially girls and individuals with disabilities, through progressive scholarship and study grant policies.

The initiatives launched include:

TSLS Guarantor Clearance QR Code Kiosk System

Scholarships Data Intelligence Platform

TSLS Mobile App with Travel and Bond Clearance features

Partner Tertiary Education Institution Portal

Alumni & Employer Connect Framework

Upgraded Alumni and Employer Connect Portal

In his keynote address, Hon. Radrodro shared that out of the 20,746 students currently benefiting from scholarships, study loans, and grants, 53 percent are female. He noted an increase in the number of new scholarships awarded this year, with figures rising from 4,731 in 2023 to 7,662 in 2024, and projected to reach 8,700 in 2025.

“The growth in numbers is a clear indication that our scholarship policies are opening doors for more Fijians to realise their tertiary education goals,” he stated.

Hon. Radrodro further explained that alongside 10,244 continuing students, the total number of Fiji Government-sponsored students stands at 18,944. Including all forms of assistance, this brings the overall total to 20,746 — the highest since 2020.

As he concluded, Hon. Radrodro expressed his confidence in TSLS’s future, remarking, “With Fiji advancing as a digital and ICT hub of the Pacific, TSLS’s innovative digital initiatives are positioning us for success. I commend the TSLS Board, CEO, and staff for their dedication to public service and their visionary leadership.”
