Returning PALM Workers to Benefit from Easier Access to Superannuation Services

Returning Fijian workers under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme will soon have easier access to superannuation services closer to their homes following the handover of new equipment to the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations.

Permanent Secretary Jone Maritino Nemani received five laptops, five printers and two tablets that will support the decentralisation of superannuation kiosk services to district-level offices across Fiji.

The equipment follows recent superannuation training delivered by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to Labour Sending Units across the Pacific and Timor-Leste, including staff from Fiji's National Employment Centre (NEC). The combination of training and new equipment is expected to strengthen the Ministry's capacity to assist returning workers outside Suva.

Mr Nemani thanked the Australian Government for its continued support, saying the investment would make a real difference for returning workers and their families.

"This investment will help bring essential superannuation services closer to our communities. Rather than travelling to Suva, returned workers from rural areas, Vanua Levu and the outer islands will increasingly be able to access support through district offices closer to home, saving time, money and effort," he said.

The initiative forms part of Fiji's broader efforts to support the successful reintegration of returning PALM workers by improving access to information and services that help them make informed decisions about their superannuation savings and future livelihoods.

The training and equipment were supported by the Australian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and delivered through the Pacific Labour Mobility Support Program (PLMSP), reinforcing the partnership between Fiji and Australia to strengthen long-term reintegration outcomes for Fijian workers, their families and communities.
