Rokoralovo Found Guilty of Murdering Nadi Doctor

Ratu Peceli Rokoralovo has been found guilty of the murder of Nadi-based doctor Isireli Biumaitotoya, who was also known as Leighley Leli Darling.

The court heard that Dr Biumaitotoya was fatally attacked with a cane knife at his residence in Fatima Court, Martintar, Nadi, sometime between August 31 and September 1 last year.

Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Rokoralovo and Dr Biumaitotoya had been involved in a complicated personal relationship, which was characterised by financial dependence, jealousy, alcohol abuse and growing tensions.

The prosecution told the court that the conflict between the two eventually escalated into a fatal confrontation at Dr Biumaitotoya's home.

Following an argument, Rokoralovo repeatedly struck Dr Biumaitotoya with a cane knife, inflicting injuries that resulted in his death.

Rokoralovo then left the scene in a vehicle belonging to the deceased.

After considering the evidence presented during the trial, Rokoralovo was found guilty of murder.

The matter has been adjourned to September 4.
