Sayed-Khaiyum and Sagar Plead Not Guilty to Fraud-Related Charges

Former Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) Chief Executive Officer Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Chief Financial Officer Vimlesh Sagar have pleaded not guilty to fraud-related charges in the Suva Magistrates Court.
Appearing before Resident Magistrate Krishan Prasad, Sayed-Khaiyum was charged with Abuse of Office for Gain for allegedly initiating five legal proceedings on behalf of FBC between July 1, 2017, and January 31, 2023, without the approval of the company’s Board of Directors.
He also faces an alternative charge of General Dishonesty – Causing a Loss amounting to $138,813.37.
Sagar has been charged with General Dishonesty – Causing a Loss of $15,075.88 for allegedly approving payments related to the legal proceedings without board authorization.
Sayed-Khaiyum is represented by lawyers Devanesh Sharma and Gul Fatima, while Ritesh Singh is acting as legal counsel for Sagar.
Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Senior State Counsel Arieta Vaganalau appeared for the prosecution.
The case has been adjourned to April 17, 2025, for mention.
