School teacher charged with raping two school students

A 25-year-old teacher from a well-known school in Tailevu, who faces sexual assault charges, has had his trial date set for next year.

He is charged with one count of sexual assault and three counts of rape, which allegedly took place in March this year, the charges involve two boys, aged 15 and 17.

The teacher appeared in court today before Justice Usaia Ratuvili.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has approved the charges.

DPP lawyer Triveshni Sharma told the court that a pretrial checklist had been completed, and proposed facts had been agreed upon.

She also mentioned that eight witnesses will be called to testify, although this number may change after witness conferencing.

Next hearing of this case will be on July 25, 2025.
