All schools in Lau, Lomaiviti, and Vanua Levu will be closed tomorrow as Tropical Depression TD09F continues to strengthen and move toward Fiji.

The decision, made in consultation with the National Disaster Risk Management Office, prioritizes the safety of students and staff amid strong winds, heavy rain, and potential disruptions.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro confirmed the closure, urging parents and guardians to take proactive safety measures during this period of adverse weather.

As of 3 AM today, TD09F was located 350 km northeast of Cikobia or 440 km north-northeast of Vanuabalavu and is expected to intensify while tracking southward into Fiji waters later today.

The system is forecasted to bring strong to near gale-force winds and heavy rainfall, particularly affecting the Northern and Eastern Divisions.

While schools outside the affected areas will remain open, parents are advised to use discretion in sending children to school.

Heads of schools have been instructed to coordinate with school management committees and district officers for further updates.

The Ministry of Education will continue providing official updates via mainstream media and government channels.
