A senior official of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has been charged in connection with the unlawful importation of more than four kilograms of methamphetamine, seized at Nadi International Airport.

This latest development brings the total number of individuals charged to seven, as part of an ongoing investigation led by the Criminal Investigations Department’s Major Crime Unit.

The investigation was launched under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Rusiate Tudravu, to dismantle the wider network allegedly involved in the trafficking of illicit substances.

The FRCS official faces one count of Unlawful Importation of Illicit Drugs and one count of Breach of Secrecy Oath under the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service Act 1998. He is alleged to have disclosed confidential information acquired during the course of his official duties.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Nadi Magistrates Court today.
