Businessman Sandeep Narayan Singh is calling for sweeping reforms to Fiji’s tax system, housing policies, healthcare incentives, and immigration framework as part of his submission for the 2026–2027 National Budget.

In a formal submission to the Ministry of Finance, Singh says Fiji must remove the current Advance Tax system, arguing it places unnecessary pressure on businesses by forcing them to pay tax on projected income before it is earned.

He says the policy locks away critical working capital that businesses should instead be using to expand, reinvest, and create jobs.

Singh is also calling for zero duty and no VAT on affordable prefabricated homes supplied under low-income housing projects, saying embedded taxes are ultimately being passed on to struggling Fijian families.

With drug abuse and HIV continuing to concern many communities, Singh has also proposed a 300 percent tax deduction model to encourage businesses and individuals to invest in rehabilitation centres and treatment facilities.

On immigration, Singh is pushing for stricter controls, including a monthly levy on foreign workers, tighter visa rules, penalties for overstayers, and faster permit processing options.

He has also proposed tax relief for ambulance operators, paramedics, and emergency medical providers, saying frontline health services deserve stronger Government support.

Singh says the recommendations are designed to support business growth, protect local jobs, improve housing access, and strengthen Fiji’s long-term economic resilience.
