Six Players Test Positive for Drugs at FMF IDC
Six players have reportedly returned positive results during drug testing on the opening day of the 2026 FMF Inter District Championship.
Sources have told Duavata News that two of the players are goalkeepers, with one understood to have previously been part of the national team setup.
One of the players is also alleged to be a repeat offender. In previous cases, players found to have committed a second offence have faced suspensions of up to one year.
Fiji Football Association CEO Mohammed Yusuf says the players who tested positive will not be allowed to continue participating in the tournament.
Yusuf says Fiji FA will not name the players at this stage as they must first go through the disciplinary process.
He says the players will also have the right to defend themselves before the disciplinary committee.
Drug testing in Fiji football has previously faced scrutiny.
Earlier this year during the Fiji FACT, two players successfully appealed cases arising from drug tests, with issues surrounding the testing process and WADA requirements raised during the appeals.
At the time, Yusuf defended the testing strips being used, saying each strip cost around $50 and could detect up to 12 different substances.
The identities of the six players remain confidential while the disciplinary process takes its course.
