Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) Leader and Minister for Education Hon. Aseri Radrodro has confirmed that the party’s General Secretary has removed a controversial social media post following internal direction.

In a press statement issued today, Radrodro clarified that the General Secretary had made the commentary in a personal capacity. However, "in light of the sensitivities involved and in recognition of our responsibilities as a partner within the coalition government," Radrodro said he had formally instructed the General Secretary to take it down.

The matter is set to be reviewed at the next scheduled meeting of SODELPA’s Working Committee, in accordance with the party’s Constitution and governance protocols.

Radrodro reiterated SODELPA’s commitment to “collective responsibility, decorum in public discourse, and the continued stability of the coalition for the good of the nation.” He reminded party members, particularly those holding public office, to exercise discretion and use appropriate forums for any discourse, ensuring it aligns with the unity and dignity of the party.

He expressed hope that the incident would serve as a learning experience.

Radrodro reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the coalition government, noting that SODELPA’s role was critical in delivering the political change Fijians sought. He referenced a directive from the party’s late founder, Ratu Inoke Takiveikata, that SODELPA should remain with the coalition for the full term.

“As Minister for Education,” Radrodro added, “my role is also crucial to bring about change and progress to the education sector,” noting that difficult decisions have been made in pursuit of long-term improvements for students, educators, and stakeholders.

“I have all confidence that the leadership I have provided thus far to the people of Fiji has been meant to stability and justice,” he said.
