SPCA Thanks All Those Involved in Saving Romeo
FIJI NEWS

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Fiji has publicly acknowledged the brave actions of concerned citizen Arun Kumar Rawat, whose decision to report the abuse of a dog named Romeo sparked a swift community-led rescue effort.
Romeo, who was found tied and padlocked in a distressing condition, was brought to the attention of authorities after Rawat posted a video of the animal’s situation on social media. The footage quickly gained traction, prompting a flood of concerned responses and ultimately leading to Romeo’s rescue.
SPCA described Rawat’s actions as “the crucial catalyst” in the operation, praising him for being a “voice for the voiceless.” His efforts led to the involvement of police and animal welfare advocates, who were able to remove Romeo from danger and transport him to Animals Fiji for urgent care and rehabilitation.
“We are deeply grateful to Arun Kumar Rawat and all the kind-hearted individuals who stepped in. Your selfless actions made all the difference,” SPCA said in a statement.
The organization also thanked Animals Fiji for stepping in to provide veterinary support and care for Romeo, whose condition is now stable.
“Romeo’s story is a reminder of why it is so important to report acts of cruelty. Too many animals in Fiji are suffering in silence,” the statement continued.
SPCA is now urging the public to continue reporting animal cruelty and supporting organizations that work on the front lines of animal welfare.
“Our work doesn’t end with Romeo. Thousands of animals across Fiji still need our help. Let this be a turning point for community vigilance and action,” SPCA said.
Authorities are reportedly investigating the incident, and SPCA has reiterated its call for stronger enforcement of animal protection laws.
