The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Fiji Islands is reminding dog owners to keep their pets safely within their property boundaries to prevent harm and protect community safety.

In a statement issued via social media, the SPCA highlighted the dangers roaming dogs face, including injuries from vehicles, fights with other animals, poisoning, theft, and the risk of becoming lost.

The organisation also noted the potential legal and emotional consequences if a roaming dog harms someone.

“Even the friendliest dog can act unpredictably in certain situations,” the SPCA stated. “Keeping your dog securely within your compound ensures their well-being and the safety of others.”

The animal welfare group is calling on pet owners to take responsibility by securing their yards and preventing avoidable incidents, emphasizing that a secure environment leads to a safer, happier life for pets—and peace of mind for their families.
