SPCA Welcomes Landmark Animal Welfare Measures in National Budget
FIJI NEWS

The SPCA Fiji Islands has welcomed the Government’s announcement of significant new measures for animal welfare in the 2026–2027 National Budget, describing them as a major step forward for the protection and care of animals across Fiji.
In a statement issued following the Budget announcement, the organisation said it was "incredibly grateful" that the Government had recognised the importance of animal welfare through the introduction of a new incentive package for the establishment of veterinary centres, animal sanctuaries and animal welfare facilities.
The SPCA also welcomed the announcement that donations to qualifying animal welfare organisations will attract a 200 percent tax deduction, a measure it says will encourage greater community support for organisations working to rescue, rehabilitate and care for animals.
According to the SPCA, the new initiatives will help make veterinary services more accessible, support the creation of safe havens for animals in need, and provide stronger incentives for individuals and businesses to contribute to animal welfare efforts.
The organisation said the measures demonstrate a strong commitment to improving the well-being of animals in Fiji and will help create more opportunities to expand animal care services throughout the country.
SPCA Fiji Islands says it looks forward to working with the Government and stakeholders to maximise the benefits of the new initiatives and strengthen animal welfare outcomes nationwide.
The organisation also encouraged members of the public to continue supporting animal welfare causes, noting that the new tax incentives make charitable giving more affordable while helping organisations continue their lifesaving work.
