Residents of the St. Gabriel area from Kalekana to Namuka I Lau gathered in unity yesterday to welcome the cross from the St. Thomas area as part of its ongoing journey through the area during this Lenten season.

The cross, which was walked from Veisari, was received at Namuka Lau, where members of both communities came together in a solemn procession.

As they walked, participants prayed the rosary and sang hymns, reflecting on the significance of the journey and the season of Lent.

Lent is a sacred season of almsgiving, fasting, and prayer, calling the faithful to renew their spiritual lives.

The cross carried during the procession symbolizes Christ’s sacrifice for humanity’s sins, His enduring love, and His mercy.

It serves as a reminder that during this season, believers are encouraged to carry their own crosses, let go of past burdens, and seek God’s mercy while committing to doing good for others.

The walk concluded with a Holy Mass led by Parish Priest Father Sanjey Kizhakkinedath.

After the Mass, refreshments were provided for the children and mothers, fostering fellowship among the faithful.

Additionally, a sevusevu was presented by the St. Gabriel community to Father Sanjey as part of the traditional welcoming of the cross into their area.

As the journey of the cross continues, the faithful are reminded of the true essence of Lent—to give generously, pray earnestly, and fast with purpose, deepening their faith and relationship with God.
