A moving tribute to Fiji’s greatest statesman, Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna, unfolded in the highlands of Nakorotubu yesterday morning as students from Nakorotubu Secondary School marked Ratu Sukuna Day with a cultural celebration rich in tradition and national pride.

The Ministry of Education shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, reflecting on Ratu Sukuna’s enduring legacy of humility and service.

“The test of our worth is the service we render,” one of Ratu Sukuna’s most iconic quotes, was at the heart of the tribute.

In honour of his life’s work, students performed the Waqavuka Meke, symbolising strength through culture and unity.

The performance echoed Ratu Sukuna’s belief that true greatness is not found in status, but in one’s commitment to serve others and uplift the community.

The Ministry stated that this year’s celebration is not just a remembrance of Ratu Sukuna’s contributions to Fiji, but also a reminder to the next generation that “the future of Fiji depends on the hands and hearts of those who lead with purpose.”
